Israel’s foreign minister has declared United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres “persona non grata” and barred him from entering the country. The county’s foreign minister accused Antonio Guterres of ‘backing terrorists, rapists, and murderers’ and branded him ‘a stain’ on the history of the UN.
This sentiments comes days after Iran launched several missiles attacks on Israel, hitting Tel Aviv. However, the UN Secretary general condemned the attack, but failed to mention Iran. The UN chief wrote on Tuesday evening: “I condemn the broadening of the Middle East conflict with escalation after escalation. This must stop. We absolutely need a ceasefire.”
Israel has long been at loggerheads with the UN and many other international organizations. However, relations between the state and the international body have hit a new low since Israel launched its relentless war in Gaza, which followed attacks on southern Israel by Hamas on October 7.
Katz claimed in his post that the UN chief had failed to condemn “the massacre and sexual atrocities committed by Hamas murderers on October 7” and of supporting “Hezbollah, the Houthis, and Iran”, which he called “the mothership of global terror”
The situation in The middle east is turning sour day by day, with the killings of Hezbollah leader by Israel and Iran retaliation to the same. Iran has further warned that if the Israel retaliate, they will hit hard on them. UN has been calling for a ceasefire all through, supporting for a two state solution between the escalating issues.
