Veteran rapper Dennis Kaggia aka DNA has waded in on the ongoing conversation about Jua Cali’s blunt criticism of comedian Timothy Kimani Ndegwa alias Njugush.
Jua Cali while laughing at Njugush’s ‘subpar’ performance in Australia insisted that the comedian was not fully at all.
However, Jua Cali apologized for being annoyingly honest after a public backlash from Njugush’s fans.
On his part, Njugush shrugged off haters stating that he was not moved by the negativity because he had chosen to focus on his die-hard fans who he said make up about 99.9 per cent of his support base.
On the other hand, DNA came out to scold Jua Cali for ‘going soft’ on Njugush following the public backlash.Speaking in a self-recorded video he posted on social media, the ‘Banjuka’ hitmaker wondered why Jua Cali had to mince his words when he had only spoken his mind.
“Jua Cali ebu come kiasi nikukule hedi moja because umekua mtu wa wasiwasi bro. Since when umekua mtu wa wasiwasi Jua Cali bro? You are my legend bro wacha kutuangusha bro. Bro ulisema ile kitu ulikua unataka kusema, mbona umerudishwa nyuma na mafans? Since when is it wrong for you to have an opinion bro?” DNA said.
“Na mi nataka kusema ile kitu yenye Jua Cali alikua anataka kusema alafu akateveva. Njugush, you are my nigga. You know I love you and I am so happy to see you and your family flourishing bro. Bro mi nataka ata ukule mabilioni uachane na mamilini. However, ata wewe kula hedi moja kwa sababu mafans wa Australia walisema kitu yenye sasa Jua Cali alitaka kusema but ametense ju Njugush ako na mbogi ingine hatari sana online,” he added.
DNA further insisted that Njugush excels in theatrical comedy but not standup comedy like what he did in Australia.
The veteran rapper noted that the comedian is good with the social media skits he does with his wife Celestine Ndinda.
Standup comedy is a comedic performance to a live audience in which the performer addresses the audience directly from the stage.
“Cheki, ukweli ndo hii, ile kitu Njugush anafanya siku hizi si standup (comedy). Hio kitu inaitwa theatre. Na hakuna kitu yenye munaweza niambia yenye si hio. Amechukua mrembo wake wanapanga skit, wee sema hivi mi niseme hivi watu wacheke. Hio ni theatre bro hio si standup. Na before museme mi ni hater, before mujue Njugush mi nilikua najua Njugush. Before Njugush akue big man we were cutting cheques for Njugush. When Njugush was still a five-figure talent, yani zero nne na number moja hapo mbele, we were cutting cheques for Njugush so I got nothing but love for Njugush. Lakini kusema ukweli bro siku hizi haichachi. Ilikua inachacha kitambo my nigga,” DNA said.
DNA additionally blamed Njugush’s wife for his failure as a standup comedian, noting that the rain started beating him when he decided to enlist Celestine in his professional career.
“Ukisha ingiza mtu mwingine in the mix, the mix change bro. Na hakuna vile dem yako anaweza amka bro na akue mnoma kama wewe within one year na wewe umekua unapiga tizi ya comedy for 15 years, it is simply not possible. So tuambiane ukweli what Njugush is now doing is theatre not standup that’s why wasee wa Australia walikua wamejam because they came to see standup not theatre,” DNA said.
He reiterated that Njugush is excelling doing family comics but underscored that the comedian was just a shell of his former self as far as standup comedy is concerned.
“Na si ati theatre ni mbaya. As a businessman Njugush and Celestine as a businesswoman, I respect you both because mumejua ile format yenye inashika Kenya siku hizi. Ata akina Terence wameshika, kina Kabi wameishika… hii story ya family na vichekesho sahi iko kwa market mbaya so salute to you as entrepreneurs. Lakini back to what Jua Cali said, as a standup comedian bro ni kitambo utupee kitu moto bro.”
