Big Question: Who will save Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua?

As the impeachment motion peak momentum since its tabling to parliament by Kibwezi West MP, The Deputy President has attempted several plans to stop his ouster. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is facing the toughest hurdle in his political carrier, not very sure, who, when and what will save him.

On Thursday 3rd, the DP file a petition in high court seeking the court to strike out his ouster motion which is now on the flow of the house, but the court did not seem to be of much help to him, as it rejected the prayers sought by the Deputy President through his Advocates.

In an interview, Deputy President said he is ready for whatever outcome it is, saying that the parliament has power and now his political fate is before the hands of the parliament. However, after the tabling of the impeachment motion, the speaker of the national assembly Moses Wetangula said that parliament cannot decide on such a matter of national importance without public participation, and therefore directed for a public participation to be held on Friday 4th.

Since then, MP who supported the billĀ  and had appended their signatures to it have been pulling out slowly, most of which claiming they have listened to options from there electorate.

The MPs claimed that their initial decision to support the ouster attempt was not based on facts which led them to make a rushed decision. They affirmed that they had not read the charges and understood them well enough.

As such, the MPs claimed that after immersing themselves in a period of soul-searching and listening to the ground, they had made the firm decision to shoot down the motion despite supporting it during its initial reading. “Reading through the motion I realized this is something our deputy president and the President can sit down and resolve because Kenya is bigger than us. I have listened to the ground and the people of Nyeri have said they do not want the deputy president removed,” said Rahab Mukami.
