Closing Ranks in the Mountain: Karua, Gachagua Unite to Challenge Ruto’s ‘Dictatorship’.

In a surprising turn of events, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua have hinted at plans to form a formidable political alliance aimed at unseating President William Ruto in the 2027 elections.

This move comes after Gachagua’s recent visit to Karua’s home in Gichugu Constituency, Kirinyaga County, where the two leaders pledged to recruit more political allies to challenge the current administration.

In a symbolic gesture to signal a new beginning, Gachagua arrived with several goats, sheep, and farm produce — all traditional offerings in Kikuyu culture representing a desire for reconciliation and a fresh start.

Accompanied by his wife, Dorcas Rigathi, and other political allies, Gachagua and Karua agreed to set aside past differences and unite in a bid to form a powerful political force.

“I have always admired your leadership, Martha, even during our disagreements. Now that we are together, we are building a formidable team for the good of Kenya,” Gachagua said.

Karua echoed the sentiment: “When those determined to oppress unite, it’s only right for those committed to liberation to do the same. Kenyans of goodwill must join hands to reclaim our rights.”

The former Deputy President, now a vocal critic of the government he once served, condemned the state of the nation, accusing his former boss of leading the country into economic decline, rampant corruption, and an increasingly intolerant regime.

“The country is spiraling downwards—economically, socially, and politically. For the first time in history, a government has targeted our children, the Gen Z. I urge them to stay strong; they are on the right side of history,” Gachagua asserted.

Both leaders voiced their outrage over the rising cases of abductions, labeling Kenya as East Africa’s capital of abduction. Karua stressed the need for defiance: “Fear cannot be an option. Even if you’re hiding, they will still come for you.”

Accusing President Ruto of a dictatorial approach, Gachagua and Karua vowed to stand against the erosion of democracy. Karua remarked, “We will not allow you to graduate into a dictator. We will stop it.”

Gachagua added, “When you neutralize the opposition, you weaken the institutions meant to hold the government accountable. This void is being filled by young people.”

The duo also sought to address accusations of tribal politics, with Gachagua pointing out that their political stance was not driven by ethnic bias.

“We didn’t reject him. He betrayed us by going against the people of this region. Had we been tribal, we would have chosen our own candidate, like Waihiga Mwaure,” Gachagua explained.

Following his impeachment, Gachagua has been making efforts to stage a political comeback, holding numerous consultative meetings with leaders across various sectors. His strategy has sparked mixed reactions, with some urging him to tone down the rhetoric.

“For now, our focus should be on delivering what was promised to the people. Let’s not get distracted by politics. The time for that will come,” said Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki.

As 2027 approaches, the real test for Gachagua and Karua will be sustaining this political momentum and whether their alliance can make a significant impact on the political landscape.
