Kennedy Rioba Matiko aka Babushka from Moheto village Migori County is setting the pace for many despite him being abled differently.Born 20 years ago, Matiko has always been passionate about music and helping those around him. And that did not come as a surprise when he chose to pursue a Bachelor in Law.
The former Taranganya High school Alumin said that music has always been a passion of his
“Dancing is a talent I discovered when I was young, I even dance in church. I love dancing because it makes me feel happy and Appreciated. It’s God’s gift to me.I also love dancing because I want to tell the world that nothing is impossible. Even without legs still, I can dance like any other person,” he said.
However, being the firstborn in a family of three, Kenndy shared his story why he chose to study law.
“I chose it because of the passion I have for justice, I love justice.I admire people like James Orengo in the law fraternity. I am a student at Kisii University, ” he stated.
Matiko has not had it easy in life. At his young age, some people treat him like a burden or someone who is not capable of achieving anything,despite all that he has always been optimistic.
“The biggest challenge I face is people looking down upon me. Some think I’m a failure because I’m abled differently. They think I can’t do any tasks, some see me as a burden to my family.”
Additionally,he urged people living with different disabilities to have faith and trust in God.
“Just like me, never look down upon yourselves and have trust that everything is possible before the Almighty Lord and He has a reason as to why they are the way they are in nature,” he said.
“…And parents with children who are abled differently should not be afraid to take them in public for exposure because they have hidden talents and capabilities, they should also take them to school for knowledge and education since they are all equal before God and most of the abled differently children are very bright in school and also abled in other areas,” he added.
