DP Kindiki announces recruitment timeline for 5000 new police officers

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has declared that the government will restart the recruitment of police officers after a pause of over two years.

The DP stated that 5,000 police officers will be hired early next year as part of the government’s initiatives to enhance security.

The recruitment will commence in March, with the specific dates and location to be announced prior to the process.

The government has indicated that it will undertake the recruitment of approximately 5,000 police officers next year following a two-year break.

Kindiki, who spoke during an interdenominational service in Lodwar, Turkana County on Sunday, December 15, further mentioned that the recruitment will not only improve security in the country but will also aid the government’s efforts to create job opportunities.

The last recruitment by the National Police Service occurred in March 2022.

The recruitment planned for 2023 was delayed, with Kindiki, who was the Interior CS at that time, disclosing that the process would take place in 2024.

“We have employed additional officers to the Kenya Defence Forces and even for that of police officers that had delays, we will be recruiting about 5,000 police officers in March.”

“We are trying to create more job opportunities in the public sector and the informal sectors.” he said

The DP also revealed that a new Cabinet Secretary for Interior would be announced by President William Ruto soon and his office will work closely with the CS to address security concerns in the area.
