Philanthropist Jacob Ireri Mbao of Mbeere North has continued his mission to empower the local community, particularly women’s groups, without seeking collaboration with top political leaders. Mbao has expressed his dedication to directly meeting the people on the ground, avoiding the use of intermediaries or brokers who might seek to control his engagement with the community.
His initiatives, which include providing boreholes for clean water, tents and chairs for community events, supporting the construction of dams, building shades for market vendors, and offering posho mills to women’s groups, have drawn attention from local leadership. A senior politician from Mbeere North recently questioned Mbao’s motivation and asked for an explanation regarding his philanthropic activities.
Despite these inquiries, Mbao remains firm in his commitment to grassroots empowerment, focusing on the direct needs of the people without political interference. As his initiatives continue to grow, one question lingers: Can Mbao’s apolitical approach truly transform the future of Mbeere North?
