‘Five Bundles of Joy’: Embakasi Woman Celebrates Birth of Quintuplets.

In a heartwarming and extraordinary event, a first-time mother in Embakasi defied the odds and gave birth to quintuplets, bringing unexpected joy and challenges.

Dorothy Muli, a 33-year-old new mom, anticipated the arrival of quadruplets. However, during her caesarean section, doctors discovered a fifth baby that had eluded all previous scans.

At a glance, you might assume the three women by her side are each swaddling their child. Yet, on closer inspection, all four babies belong to one remarkable woman.

Now, a month after the delivery, the initial excitement is giving way to the realities of caring for her newborns.

As she lovingly puts them to bed, her face reveals a mixture of joy and concern.

Joy for the blessing of her four surviving babies and worry over how she will provide for them.

Dorothy’s journey began with the expectation of one baby. As the pregnancy progressed, scans revealed not one, two, or three, but four babies.

Thus, the surprise of a fifth baby during the delivery was both shocking and delightful.

“From the first scan, ilionyesha watoto wanne, hata nikienda theatre I knew ni wanne. Procedure ikaanza wakatoa watoto wanne then surgeon akasema kuna mwingine akatoa wakakua watano,” Muli recalls.

The strain of carrying quintuplets took a toll on her health, with her blood pressure soaring and her heart under immense pressure, necessitating oxygen and a stay in the critical care unit.

As she gazes lovingly at her babies sharing a cot in her studio apartment in Embakasi, her eyes linger on the empty spot where the fifth baby would have been.

Dorothy was hit with heartbreaking news soon after leaving critical care. One of the twins had passed away shortly after birth, and she never had the chance to hold him.

“Alikuja akaniuliza umeambiwa mmoja ali pass, nikasema hapana akaniambia mmoja amekufa,” she recounts.

Due to her health complications, Dorothy is unable to breastfeed her newborns, who now rely on formula for nutrition.

The family is urgently appealing for well-wishers to help them purchase baby formula to keep the four tiny bundles of joy alive and thriving.

Dorothy’s incredible story of unexpected joy and profound loss is a testament to the resilience and love of a mother. The community’s support can make a significant difference in the lives of these precious babies.
