In just a year, Francis, affectionately known as Francis wa Mahindi Choma, has turned his simple karai and jiko into a thriving business venture in the bustling streets of Embu. Originally from Tharaka, Francis’s journey to success is a testament to resilience and entrepreneurship. Despite humble beginnings, he now earns between Ksh 600 and 1000 per day, raking in approximately 25k a month, surpassing the earnings of many local M-Pesa attendants along Mama Ngina street.

Francis’s story is one of determination and innovation. Arriving in Embu with just a karai and jiko, he quickly recognized an opportunity in the market. Armed with his culinary skills and a desire to succeed, Francis set up his makeshift stall, specializing in roasted maize, or ‘mahindi choma,’ a popular snack among locals.

His strategic location near Mama Ngina street ensured a steady flow of customers, drawn in by the irresistible aroma of freshly roasted maize. Francis’s friendly demeanor and dedication to quality soon earned him a loyal customer base, with word of mouth spreading his reputation across town.

Despite facing challenges such as fluctuating maize prices and competition from other vendors, Francis remained undeterred. He constantly innovated, introducing new flavors and combinations to attract more customers. From traditional salted maize to spicy chili-infused varieties, Francis’s menu catered to diverse tastes, ensuring there was something for everyone.

Francis’s success goes beyond financial gains. He has become a symbol of inspiration within the community, demonstrating that with hard work and determination, anyone can achieve their dreams. His story serves as a beacon of hope for aspiring entrepreneurs, proving that even the simplest of resources can lead to remarkable success.

As Francis continues to expand his business and explore new opportunities, he remains grounded in his roots, never forgetting the journey that brought him to where he is today. With each roasted cob of maize, he not only satisfies hunger but also embodies the spirit of entrepreneurship, transforming dreams into reality one kernel at a time.
