Gov’t Cracks Down on Embu Gangs with Special Police Unit – DP Kindiki

The government has moved swiftly to respond to rising insecurity in Embu town by deploying a specialized police unit to deal with gangs that have been terrorizing residents in recent weeks.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who visited the town on Friday evening, assured the public that the government is taking the matter seriously and has already initiated tough measures to restore law and order.

“A special team has been deployed here to flush out the criminals who have terrorized residents. I want to assure them that their days are numbered,” he stated.

Kindiki said the decision came after consultations with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, following mounting concerns raised by residents and local leaders.

“The Quick Response Team (QRT) is already in Embu and has strict instructions to deal firmly with the criminals,” he noted.

The Deputy President called on members of the public to cooperate with the officers on the ground and report any suspicious individuals or activities. He also urged those involved in criminal activities to surrender to authorities or face the full force of the law.

“We cannot allow any gang to take over this town. It is not acceptable for criminals to take the law into their own hands,” he warned.

In a notable move, Kindiki also ordered the reinstatement of Town Chief Jackson Kamau, who had earlier been relieved of his duties. He said the decision was based on public interest and the need for strong local administration during the crackdown.

The Deputy President used the occasion to caution national administration officers against politicizing their roles. He emphasized that civil servants must remain neutral and serve all citizens fairly, regardless of political affiliations.

“We will not allow any civil servant to take political sides in serving the people. As an administration, we will never misuse administrators for political gain. That will not happen because it will be injurious to non-partisan service delivery,” he said.

As the Quick Response Team begins its operations, Embu residents now wait in anticipation, hopeful that the government’s intervention will finally bring an end to the fear and insecurity that has gripped the town.
