“I’m not a violent person” – CS nominee Alice Wahome says after concerns from MP.

Water and Sanitation Cabinet Secretary nominee Alice Wahome has refuted claims that she is a violent person after concerns about her temperament.

Appearing before the Parliamentary Committee of Appointments on Monday, October 17, Wahome told the vetting committee that she is able to manage her temper after concerns from Saboti MP Caleb Hamisi.Hamisi cited an incident where the Kandara MP was accused of assaulting an electoral official during the 2017 polls.

Responding to the lawmaker, Wahome admitted that she was involved in an altercation in her constituency but denied slapping the official.

However, she downplayed the incident that was caught in a viral video involving a returning officer identified as Martin Malonza, insisting that she has never been charged in court with assault.

“I have been a politician for 20 years. Although I have served two terms and this third term, I have not been involved in any other fight or altercation except this that you seem to pick,” Wahome said….”I am sure there are cases that can be very bad. I do not think I am a violent person. I am able to manage my tempers,” she added before National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei asked Hamisi to ask his question without being subjective.

Wahome had in October 2017 said she confronted the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official after he allegedly barred Jubilee party agents from signing Form 34B during the repeat presidential poll.
