“Inhuman?” Shock as baby’s body is found dumped in compost pit.

Residents of Total estate in Narok town on Wednesday, November 16 2022, woke up to a rude shock after the body of a newborn baby was found dumped in a compost pit.The area’s nyumba kumi chairman Jacob Jomo said he got a report from the residents that there was a body lying in the dumping site and upon getting to the site, a number of people had gathered to witness the bizarre act.

Jomo said the body was covered with a piece of cloth and had not yet decomposed by the time it was found.
“Such incidents are becoming common in this area. We suspect that the body was dropped by a mother who did not want to bring up her child. We urge our girls not to engage in unprotected sex if they are not ready to bring up children,” he said.

Antony Mintilla, a resident who witnessed the incident, asked women who give birth to unplanned babies to seek help from authorities like children’s offices, children’s homes or churches where they can get guidance on how to raise their children.
“It is sad that someone gives birth to a healthy child and fails to protect them yet we have so many families who are not blessed with children,” he said.

Narok Central Police Commander Frederick Shiundu said they are investigating the matter to ascertain who had dropped the body in the compost pit and the reasons behind the evil act.He called upon residents to give any information that would lead to the arrest of the culprit, saying every life was very precious and sacred.

Shiundu asked any person who was undergoing challenges in raising their children to seek guidance from his office, adding that there were trained officers who deal with gender matters.
“You do not have to suffer alone in silence to an extent of killing your child, you can visit our office and share your challenges and together we can help solve the problem,” he said.
