A photos showcasing a female driver’s high-speed journey on the highway has sparked worries. Monica Mugo, identified as @monicahmugo869 on TikTok, posted a video of herself speeding while transporting muguka.
Critics accused the muguka transporter of jeopardizing other motorists’ lives by reaching speeds of 160km/h. Monica Mugo, a single mother of three, was observed accelerating in a Toyota Fielder, reminiscent of the vehicles used to transport miraa and muguka in the Mt Kenya region.
Despite the prescribed speed limit on most Kenyan highways being 80 km/h, miraa transporters often disregard traffic regulations to deliver the perishable stimulant. Their vehicles undergo modifications to achieve high speeds and ensure stability while traveling along the Meru-Embu-Nairobi and Nanyuki-Nairobi highways.
Concerned social media users cautioned against excessive speeds, with various reactions surfacing:
– Pocahantas lamented the loss of friends who were once skilled drivers.
– Festo expressed initial fear at the sight of 160km/h, compounded by the realization that it was a manual vehicle.
– Kimtai Paps warned of the potential consequences of any miscalculation at such speeds.
– Joel Muterian emphasized the lethality of speed, citing his aversion to it.
– Brian Mushaukwa highlighted the bravery required to disregard the dangers of high-speed driving.
– Adrian Mc Chipukeezy shared a personal experience to underscore the perils of speeding.
Meanwhile, in a separate development, Lydiah, a woman operating a manual commercial truck, shared insights into her profession. Lydiah’s responsibilities include transporting cement, steel, and other construction materials to clients nationwide. She noted the challenges of long-distance driving, despite not having been involved in any accidents over the past two years.
Lydiah emphasized that her journey serves as evidence that women are capable of operating heavy-duty vehicles, challenging traditional gender norms in the process.
