National Assembly to debate Ruto’s State of Nation address which he delivered on Thursday, November 21, 2024.

Some key points from President Ruto’s speech included that over 60 percent of payroll workers have shifted from the defunct NHIF to the Social Health Authority (SHA), SHA will process all claims starting this October, all dealings with the Adani Group have been cancelled, an additional 20,000 teachers will be recruited by January 2025, and all 17 sugar factories in Kenya are now operational.

“The House will convene to debate the President’s address and examine priority business before the long recess,” stated National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula on November 19, 2024.

On Thursday at 2 PM in Parliament, President William Ruto delivered a State of the Nation Address highlighting his administration’s achievements and future plans.

The President discussed various issues including agriculture, education, health, Adani deals, abductions, and femicide.

Responses from Kenyans varied, with some praising him while others criticized the speech for being lackluster.

Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, who previously urged the government to terminate the Adani Group dealings, commended Ruto for the cancellation.

Speaking to Citizen TV, he remarked that the President had taken significant steps against corruption.

“I’m pleased that the President has instructed all ministries that any engagement involving Private-Public Partnerships (PPPs) with international donors or financiers must be transparent,” he stated.

“The President’s speech today was a reflection of wit, and we take pride in it. ”

Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale also commented on the cancellation of the Adani Group deal, stating that Ruto is a responsive President.

In his address, the President outlined a range of projects that his government has accomplished and future initiatives aimed at benefiting the citizens. The parliament is anticipated to present the president’s report before the house.
