“Ni uchungu saana” Raila Odinga emotionally recount losing close friends in the struggle for liberation

  • Raila Odinga addressed the nation on 13th October at Mombasa in Azimio la umoja event.
  • Odinga reminded Kenyans on the struggles that the country has endured through vicissitudes of time before realising the democracy that we enjoy.

The Azimio la umoja one Kenya leader recounted with distress how she of his comrades bid him farewell following their sentencing. The former Prime minister elucidated on the difficult journey of fighting for the democracy the we current enjoy its fruit, recounting how many leaders were arrested and faced severe consequences including death penalties.

The long standing veteran politician explained that the fight has never been easy, and had been fought for a long time with a vats majority comrades loosing lives in the struggle before realising the changes that we celebrate today. “Understanding that this has come from afar. It’s a struggle that Kenyans have fought for a long time. Some have died. I saw many friends perish in this struggle. Others were taken to court, only to return with death sentences saying goodbye to me while asking me to convey their regards to their family” He paused

The long standing leader of opposition and celebrated politician expressed distress over how certain friends in the struggle for a better Kenya bis him bye as they were taken to be killed after their death sentence. In his moving speech while addressing the masses at Mombasa, Odinga almost broke in to tears, while reminiscing the events that traversed achievement of the current political freedom.

Odinga, who is now eyeing at the AUC Chairmanship broke while remembering his comrades friends in the struggles. “I am dying but for the sake of Kenyans. It pains me to recall someone who stood by you saying they won’t see you again before being taken away to be hanged” He recounted 

Raila hinted at necessity for further amending the constitution to ensure citizens reap big from the fruits of the country’s democracy,
