The National Police Service (NPS) has cautioned the public against participating in protests planned for Thursday, the day President William Ruto is scheduled to deliver the State of the Nation Address in Parliament.
In a statement issued Wednesday evening, NPS Spokesperson Dr. Resila Onyango noted that organizers of the reported demonstrations had not submitted the required notification as per the Public Order Act.
“The National Police Service has noted information circulating on social media about planned demonstrations. While Kenyans have a constitutional right to peaceably assemble and demonstrate, organizers are legally required to notify the Regulating Officer in writing at least three days in advance to facilitate safety measures,” the statement read in part.
To date, no such notification has been received, prompting the police to assure the public of their safety and urge them to continue daily activities without fear of disruption.
The warning follows growing speculation about protests linked to political discontent. Authorities reiterated their commitment to upholding public safety while respecting constitutional freedoms.
