President William Ruto has announced the reopening of all schools on Monday, May 13, 2024. This decision follows improved weather forecasts, indicating a reduction in heavy rains that previously necessitated the postponement of school reopening.
Furthermore, President Ruto has instructed that funds for the reconstruction of school infrastructure damaged by heavy rains be made available through the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF).
Initially scheduled for April 29, 2024, the reopening date was later pushed to May 6, 2024, due to disruptions caused by the heavy rains.
However, last Friday, President Ruto directed the Ministry of Education to indefinitely postpone the reopening of all schools in response to the flooding crisis brought about by the rains.
