“Ready?”, KCPE results to be released any time next week – CS Machogu.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has said learners who sat the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams will know their results before the end of next week. Machogu said marking of the exam papers is already complete.

“We have done the marking and it is finished and we are going to release the KCPE exams anytime next week and most likely we will also be able to conduct the Form One placement before Christmas so that they can be joining Form One by at least the third week of January,” Machogu said.

He said early release of the results will allow parents ample time to look for resources for form one admission. The 2023 cohort was the last to sit the KCPE exams as the ministry works on phasing out the 8-4-4 curriculum.

“We have had the 8-4-4 system for the last 38 years since 1985 and we now phasing out that system. The number of candidates that we had this year was higher than any other year previously 1,415, 315 candidates,” he said.

Machogu said the exam was conducted between October 30 and November 1 was concluded well.

“There were no cases of cheating. No cases of any kind of malpractice. We only had six cases which were only attempts to cheat. Out of 1,415,315 candidates, the only cases that we had were six,” he said.

For KCSE which is ending this week, Machogu noted that there are 903,260 candidates. While noting that the ministry aims to deliver credible results, Machogu revealed that marking of KCSE will start after the end of the exam exercise.

He said this year, the ministry took extra caution to ensure exam malpractices are not reported including increasing containers and distribution centres countrywide. The ministry also directed that exam papers for KCSE be picked twice a day to reduce chances of early exposure.

“The rules we have put in place are countrywide. They are not targeting any community or any particular county or school. These are regulations affecting the 10,651 exam centres that we have in this country,” Machogu said.
