Ruth Kamande, a young woman convicted of murder, is among the inmates who graduated with a law degree
Kamande was arrested, tried, and convicted for fatally stabbing her boyfriend in 2015 at Buruburu Estate in Nairobi 25 times.
This comes after Ruth, alongside other convicts and wardens, graduated with a law degree. Kamande was arrested, tried and convicted over murdering her lover Farid Mohammed Halim. The tragic incident occurred on September 20, 2015, at Buruburu Estate in Nairobi. While some netizens congratulated here, a record number were mesmerized by how she managed to attain such millage while behind bars.
The beauty queen, beaming with joy, was seen wearing black graduation attire, her smile radiating happiness. Addressing her colleagues, she remarked that the day was special because it celebrated graduates who had successfully pursued law studies while serving time behind bars.
“We are here to celebrate this new story, which all of you have participated in rewriting. We are here to celebrate graduands. But we are not only here to celebrate graduands from the University of London but graduates who have successfully pursued law behind bars,” Ruth said
She highlighted that the day was also meant to celebrate graduates who had achieved meaningful transformation, rehabilitation, and reform during their incarceration. “Graduands whose stories have been uniquely re-written by all of you,” she added. While preparing for her graduation, Ruth Kamande revealed that her motivation to pursue law came from former Attorney General Githu Muigai offered to help her with her case. “I wanted to get a good lawyer who could help me with my case. and somebody who could understand me at the same time. So professor Githu Muigai came in, I was so touched and desired to become like him,” Kamande said.
