Security Breach? President Ruto Attacked with Shoe in Migori—Three Arrested

Three individuals have been arrested following a startling incident where a man hurled a shoe at President William Ruto during his address in Kuria West, Migori County.

The incident occurred on Sunday in the Kehancha area, briefly disrupting the President’s speech as he addressed local residents. A five-second video clip shows a man from the crowd throwing a shoe toward the Head of State, which Ruto managed to deflect. Security personnel swiftly responded, surrounding the President and pushing the crowd back to restore order.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen confirmed the arrests and stated that the suspects are being interrogated as part of a broader investigation to determine whether the act was spontaneous or a deliberate attempt to breach presidential security.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack may have been politically motivated and possibly premeditated prior to the President’s visit.

At the time of the incident, President Ruto was on a raised podium, speaking about lowering the cost of living during his three-day working tour in Migori County. He had launched and commissioned several development projects earlier in the day.

Although the President remained calm and even asked his security team to restrain from excessive force, the brief disruption was enough to trigger a rapid response from his guards—mainly drawn from the General Service Unit (GSU). The proximity of the dais to the crowd and signs of agitation before the incident had already hinted at a potential security risk.

Detectives began investigations immediately, and more arrests could follow as they dig deeper into the motive and planning behind the attack.
