Njeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga says DP Kithgure Kindiki is neglecting the mountain

Two governors from the Mount Kenya region have publicly criticized Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, alleging that he has neglected their area.

During a discussion on Saturday, January 18, 2025, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga and Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki urged Kindiki to concentrate on unifying the region instead of serving as a mere puppet for the President.

Kahiga encouraged Njuki to address Kindiki’s fears, emphasizing that his concerns about impeachment have detracted from prioritizing the needs of the people in Central Kenya, asking rhetorically, “Did Gachagua die after his impeachment? ”

“He has never come home because he has been asked not to come to the mountain because his job is to unite Kenyans. How can you unite Kenya when you have not united your home?”

At the same time, Kahiga urged the Deputy President to free himself from the constraints that are holding him back and visit the region with confidence and pride.

Supporting Kahiga’s sentiments, Governor Njuki took aim at DP Kindiki, pointing out that Tharaka Nithi is yet to see any real benefits despite having a Deputy President.

“While we’re proud to have a Deputy President, that alone isn’t sufficient. We demand the development that was promised during the campaigns to become a reality,” he declared.

Since taking office in October 2024, Kindiki has faced a mixed response in the region, with some still supporting the impeached DP Rigathi Gachagua.

However, during his recent visits in the region, Kindiki avoided political campaigns, focusing instead on advancing the government’s agenda.

For instance, in his latest trip to Embu, he reaffirmed his commitment to uniting Kenyans and promoting development across the country.

“The people who are trying to distract what we are trying to do for Embu, our region, and the country will also have an opportunity to explain what they did when they had their opportunity,” he stated.

Governor Kahiga suggested that Kindiki’s fear of facing a similar fate as Gachagua is preventing him from prioritizing the region’s needs.
