During the tour, Ruto expressed gratitude to prominent leaders from the region, including Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, for their support during a challenging period. “Mudavadi and Wetang’ula chose to join me in forming the government during a very difficult time. Many told them they were mistaken, believing UDA would not win the election,” the President stated during an interdenominational prayer at Cheptais Boys High School in Bungoma County’s Mt. Elgon constituency.
The President clarified that the merger should not be viewed as a means to undermine other Kenyans, regions, or communities, but rather as a unifying effort for the entire nation. “We are committed to moving forward as a united nation, which is why I have put an end to tribal and divisive politics. The merger of UDA and ANC embodies the spirit of unity,” he remarked.
Ruto emphasized that the broad-based government aims to accelerate transformation and development for all Kenyans, rather than serving personal or political interests. Mudavadi, who also serves as Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary, noted that ANC united with UDA because they believe in the ruling party’s ideals, which can only be fulfilled through national unity.
