Stage set for Embu Sevens with 20 teams set to battle it out for honours.


Preparations are in top gear for this year’s edition of Embu Sevens with 20 teams set to participate.The tourney takes place this weekend at the Embu ASK Showground in Njukiri.

 

Embu RFC chairman Abijah Bosire says that this year’s event will also include primary and secondary school rugby teams, to be played on June 9 at the same venue, noting that four primary and secondary school teams have confirmed participation.

 

However, the organisers revealed that the schools games which will act as a curtain raiser, are also intended to identify upcoming talents.

 

All Saints’ High School from Embu, which will represent Kenya at the East Africa School Games in Rwanda in August are among the participants.

 

The elite teams include last year’s Embu Sevens winners Strathmore, Nakuru Top Fry, Mwamba, host club Embu RFC, Meru RFC among other teams.

 

Additionally, he said the event will help boost the economy of the town just a few days after the county hosted this year’s Madaraka Day celebrations at Embu Moi stadium.
