Despite vying for a top role as African Union Commission (AUC) Chair, Raila Odinga assures Kenyans that his journey in Kenyan politics is far from over. Speaking at a thanksgiving event in Rangee Constituency, the ODM leader made it clear he’s here to stay.
Raila emphasized that even a win for the AUC Chairmanship wouldn’t warrant anyone counting him out of Kenya’s political arena. “I am not going without coming back. I am still here,” he stated, reaffirming his commitment to the country’s future.
The ODM leader also reassured supporters that the party, under the leadership of Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, will continue its work to uphold democracy in Kenya.
In a pointed remark about succession, National Assembly Minority Leader June Mohammed warned ODM politicians against any premature plans to succeed Odinga, indicating the party’s focus on unity and continuity. Gladys Wanga, ODM Chairperson, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of preserving Odinga’s influence within the party.
Additionally, Nyong’o called on officials to ramp up membership registrations ahead of ODM’s grassroots elections, scheduled for November 27. These elections, beginning at polling stations and progressing to the national level, will pave the way for new leadership within the party.
With grassroots elections around the corner, ODM members are reminded of Raila’s enduring influence. Whether on a national or continental stage, it’s clear Raila intends to stay deeply involved in shaping Kenya’s political future.
