“We will meet in court!,”UDA Sec Gen Malala vows to Sue ODM over Monday’s protests.

United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party Secretary General Cleophas Malala has threatened legal action against the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following the aftermath of Monday’s demonstrations in Kisumu.

Speaking during a News Night Show on Tuesday, Malala claimed that the Raila Odinga-led party had hired goons to destroy the recently opened UDA offices in Kisumu and torch down property. He, therefore, said he would write to the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu and direct the party’s advocate to file a suit in the High Court to have ODM held accountable for the damage caused on Monday.

“It is quite a pity that demonstrators who were hired by ODM went to our UDA office in Kisumu to torch our office,” he said.

….“We are going to write to the Registrar of Political Parties to ensure that ODM is accountable for these heinous acts; they must pay and compensate the owners of the vehicles which were torched yesterday and this must stop.”

He added: “I am the one who will be writing to the Registrar of Political Parties and also instructing our party lawyer to institute a court case against ODM because this must come to an end because we are setting a precedence that when you are dissatisfied with somebody, you set out their political parties offices.”

The former Kakamega Senator also said he would request the court to stop the allocation of political parties’ funds until the case he files is concluded.

“We are also going to ask the high court to suspend the disbursement of the political parties’ funds until this matter is heard and determined because we do not want to set this as our precedence,” he noted.

Malala likewise reiterated that the recent move by the President William Ruto-led party to set up offices in Kisumu, an Odinga political stronghold, would not be derailed by the Monday protests. He assured Kisumu residents that the UDA offices would be rebuilt in the course of the week.

“We are telling our Kisumu people that on Tuesday we are going back to repaint…this is the ruling party. This is not just any other party. We are going to continue with the grassroots member drive and Kisumu is going to be yellow,” he stated.
