‘He Was Clueless!’ President Ruto Intensifies Criticism of Former DP Gachagua

On the final day of his six-day developmental tour in Western Kenya, President William Ruto visited Bungoma and Busia counties, where his strained relationship with former deputy Rigathi Gachagua took center stage. While addressing residents, Ruto justified his decision to part ways with Gachagua, highlighting what he described as the former deputy’s lack of understanding of key national programs.

“He (Gachagua) doesn’t understand anything about the programs of the Republic of Kenya. He has no clue about UHC (Universal Health Coverage), housing, agriculture, or addressing the needs of our young people,” Ruto stated.

Gachagua, however, had earlier criticized the Ruto administration. Speaking from his rural Wamunyoro home during a TikTok live session, he accused the government of failing to deliver on its promises over the past two years. Ruto fired back with sharp words:
“And then he stands there claiming he wants to lecture us. What kind of nonsense is that? People of hatred, division, traps, and gossip have no place in preaching division in our nation.”

Ruto called on leaders and critics to focus on offering practical solutions to the country’s challenges rather than dwelling on blame. He reaffirmed his commitment to unity and inclusive development, saying, “There is no community in Kenya that will be isolated for any reason. Every region will partake in the development of our nation. That is my mission, and I will not be distracted, dissuaded, or blackmailed. No one will stand in the way.”

In a shift of tone, Ruto expressed optimism regarding Kenya’s candidate for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship, Raila Odinga. The President voiced confidence in Odinga’s chances of clinching the seat, signaling a moment of unity on the international stage amidst local political differences.
