New twist in the DP impeachment motion as Governor Sakaja who is a crucial prosecution witness absent from thee country.

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has chosen not to testify in Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment trial, opting to attend a global summit in Mexico instead.

Sakaja’s absence has raised concerns regarding the impact on the National Assembly’s case, as he was a significant witness in the proceedings. In his affidavit, Sakaja alleges that Gachagua unlawfully opposed the relocation of traders from Wakulima Market and incited citizens against the Nairobi County Government.

Sakaja asserts that Gachagua’s actions, including ethnic incitement, undermine devolution and violate the integrity of county governance, constituting grounds for impeachment.

He is currently in Mexico City for the prestigious Bloomberg CityLab, a global summit organized by Bloomberg Philanthropies. The summit gathers more than 500 mayors, policymakers, innovators, and thought leaders to explore solutions for the most urgent urban challenges.

During the summit, Sakaja emphasized the potential of Nairobi’s young population and shared insights on the city’s approach to addressing its urban challenges. His absence from the Senate trial, however, has raised questions regarding its effect on the National Assembly’s case against Gachagua.
