Outraged Mbuvori residents in Embu county demand justice from KPLC after devastating power surge.

In a fervent demonstration of discontent, Mbuvori residents are rallying to take legal action against the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) for the havoc wreaked on their households due to a significant power surge. The surge, which struck unleashed destruction across the village, leaving a trail of damaged properties and shattered livelihoods in its wake.

During a solidarity event convened to support the family of Kirima Ngari, who lost their home to the calamitous surge, residents voiced their grievances, lamenting the extensive losses incurred.

“We have lost a house, TVs, radios, fridges, and many more in the incident. We have reported the cases to the police and we will sue KPLC on the same,” a distressed family member asserted, reflecting the community’s resolve to seek justice.

In a bid to channel their grievances through official channels, Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji urged the affected residents to formally lodge complaints with the power company. Mukunji emphasized the imperative for KPLC to compensate all those adversely affected by the power surge, pledging to leverage all available resources and influence to ensure that justice prevails in the matter.

Underlining his commitment to supporting the distressed community, Mukunji, through the Mukunji Foundation, extended tangible assistance by donating essential supplies such as foodstuffs, building materials, and financial aid earmarked for the purchase of school uniforms. The MP’s proactive intervention not only symbolizes solidarity with the affected families but also underscores the urgent need for accountability and redress in the face of corporate negligence.
