ICT Cabinet Secretary William Kabogo is confident that he will play a key role in reshaping politics in Mt. Kenya and ensuring residents align with President William Ruto’s agenda.
Speaking at the Annual Data Privacy Conference in Eldoret, Kabogo dismissed accusations from former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, stating that the ex-DP is misleading the people of Mt. Kenya.
Kabogo asserted that Gachagua’s attempts to sway public opinion would not deter President Ruto from fulfilling his plans for the region. He promised to visit Mt. Kenya soon to quell the “anti-government” sentiment.
“I can assure you that the noise in the mountain will end. I am heading to the mountain soon to deliver President Ruto’s greetings, which will be well received,” Kabogo said.
The CS criticized Gachagua for being vocal about issues that he never addressed during his tenure in government, accusing him of stirring trouble without offering real solutions.
“You can’t be in the kitchen cooking and eating, then get out and start telling people the food was bad, asking me to give you more,” Kabogo remarked.
Kabogo further warned Mt. Kenya residents not to blindly follow Gachagua and vowed to use his role as CS to address the political and social issues facing the region.
“It’s like getting on a bus that you know isn’t going anywhere. There are things that need fixing, and I will fix them,” Kabogo added.
Turning to broader concerns, Kabogo emphasized the importance of responsible internet use, especially among the youth. He also underlined the government’s efforts to safeguard data privacy, a move that aligns with the administration’s ongoing push for digital transformation.
“I ask our young people to use the internet responsibly for the good of society. Together with players in the sector, I will work to elevate Kenya’s digital transformation,” Kabogo said.
In line with the government’s bottom-up economic agenda, Kabogo discussed plans for expanding ICT infrastructure, including the development of 25,000 Wi-Fi hotspots, to support economic growth. He stressed that data protection builds investor confidence, contributing to Kenya’s economic development.
