President Ruto appoints General Charles Kihariri as the new Chief of Defence Forces.


President Ruto has appointed General Charles Kihariri as the new Chief of Defence Forces, succeeding the late General Francis Ogolla. Additionally, Lieutenant General John Mugaravai Ornenda has been promoted to Vice Chief of the Defence Forces, following his role as the Kenya Air Force Commander.

Furthermore, Major General Fatuma Gaiti Ahmed has been appointed Commander of the Kenya Air Force, while Major General Paul Owuor Otieno has been appointed Commander of the Kenya Navy.

President Ruto, on the advice of the Defence Council chaired by Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, has made several promotions, postings, and appointments within the KDF:

– Major General Thomas Njoroge Ng’ang’a has been appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Administration and Finance at the National Defence University.
– Brigadier Peter Nyamu Githinji has been promoted to Major General and appointed Senior Directing Staff, Air, at the National Defence College.
– Brigadier Jariani Kampare Gula has been promoted to Major General and appointed Managing Director of the Kenya Meat Commission.
– Brigadier George Okumu has been promoted to Major General and appointed Managing Director of the Kenya Ordinance Factories Corporation and Food Processing Factory.
– Brigadier Samuel Kosgel Kipkorir has been appointed Deputy Commander of the Kenya Air Force.

The rotational nature of the CDF position is highlighted, with General Kahariri hailing from the Kenya Navy, following General Ogolla’s tenure from the Kenya Air Force.
