President William Ruto, alongside Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, made a significant entrance at Chinga Boys High School grounds to inaugurate the Changachicha Irrigation Water Project in Othaya, Nyeri County. This milestone marks a crucial step towards bolstering agricultural productivity and food security in the region.
Spanning across 500 acres, the Changachicha Irrigation Water Project stands as a pivotal initiative in addressing food security challenges. With its implementation, more than 1,500 farmers will have the opportunity to cultivate crops throughout the year, ensuring sustainable agricultural practices and economic stability for the community.
As part of its long-term vision, the project is set to undergo expansion, ultimately benefiting up to 3,000 farmers in the region. The Ruto Administration’s commitment to increasing the land under irrigation underscores its strategic approach to mitigating food scarcity. By reducing dependency on food imports, estimated at over 500 billion annually, the administration aims to fortify the nation’s self-sufficiency and economic resilience.
