Stormed Out: Embu Artisans Call on County Government for Urgent Shelter and Support Amid Flooded Workstations.

In the heart of Embu, Juakali artisans are facing a relentless struggle as heavy rains flood their workstations, leaving them with little choice but to plead for support. The artisans, who include mechanics, welders, and other skilled tradespeople, have been displaced by pooling water in their open work areas, threatening their ability to earn a livelihood.

The artisans are appealing to the County Government for an urgent response, requesting the installation of cabros and construction of shades to shield them from the weather. They argue that a proper drainage system is crucial to stop the flooding that forces them to halt their work whenever it rains.

“When it rains, we have nowhere to work,” said Kimanthi, a mechanic who has witnessed his workspace repeatedly flooded. “Water floods everywhere due to the lack of a proper drainage system.”

For these artisans, the current conditions make it difficult to protect their tools, products, and overall workspace. They say that improvements like shelters and better infrastructure are not just about comfort—they are necessary to ensure that they can continue to provide essential services to the Embu community.

The Juakali sector plays a significant role in the local economy, offering affordable services and supporting numerous livelihoods. Without immediate action, these artisans risk losing their income, while Embu residents face reduced access to essential services. The artisans hope the County Government will address their plea, ensuring they can work safely, regardless of the weather.
