Brace yourselves for another week of wet weather and chilly nights! The Kenya Meteorological Department is forecasting more rain across various regions in Kenya, along with dropping temperatures that will bring an extra chill to nighttime. Here’s what you need to know to stay prepared for the coming days.
In its latest weather forecast, the department indicated that some regions will experience heavier rainfall than others. Rain is expected in several areas, including the Central Highlands, Nairobi, Western Kenya, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, Southeastern Kenya, the Coast, and North-Eastern Kenya.
“Some areas might experience isolated heavy rainfall,” noted the department, cautioning residents to be alert.
Nighttime temperatures across many parts of the country are also expected to drop, with some regions likely to experience lows of 10°C or below. According to the forecast, cooler nights are expected in the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and Southeastern lowlands.
However, daytime temperatures will generally remain warm, especially in coastal areas where temperatures could reach 30°C or higher. “Stay cool and hydrated,” the department advised, noting that Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya are also likely to experience these warm daytime conditions.
This forecast comes as Nairobi and other regions have recently experienced heavy rainfall. The department’s previous forecast on November 5 warned residents in the Nairobi metropolitan region to prepare for light to moderate rain, with occasional heavy showers. Rainfall was also expected in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, Southeastern lowlands, the Coast, and North-Eastern Kenya.
The forecast for the first half of the period, from November 5 to November 11, predicted rain, with a return to generally sunny and dry conditions expected in the second half. There remains a possibility of isolated storms in parts of these regions.
As the rain continues, it’s essential to stay informed and prepared for the changing weather. Whether you’re in the cooler highlands or enjoying the warmth along the coast, these conditions remind us of the season’s unpredictability. Keep an eye on updates and stay safe out there!
