Msichoke! Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta Encourages Gen Z to Fight for Their Rights

In a spirited address during the burial of his cousin Kibathi Muigai in Ichaweri, Gatundu South, on January 17, 2025, Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta urged Kenyan youth, popularly referred to as Gen Z, to continue fighting for their rights without fear or surrender.

Amid cheers from the gathered crowd, Uhuru emphasized the importance of resilience and activism in securing a better future. “Shida ya watu siku hizi, sijui mumeogopeshwa. Ma Gen Z nyinyi ndio the story of the future. Fight for your rights bwana,” he stated, encouraging the youth to not let their hard-earned efforts be taken away. He called on them to stand firm and ensure justice is served for their sweat and toil.

“Msikubali. Pambaneni muhakikishe mumepata haki yenu. Munasikia nyinyi? Sio kukaa kaa hapo tu,” he continued, urging the youth to be proactive in defending their rights. He reassured them that while older generations might take a back seat, they are fully supportive of the younger generation’s fight for justice.

“Dunia haiendi namna hio. Muwe watu ambao hawataogopa. Teteeni haki zenu sio kukaa kaa tu mnaogopa,” he added, reinforcing the message that Gen Z holds the power to drive change and should not fear standing up for their rights.

Uhuru’s comments come at a time when the Kenya Kwanza government faces increasing scrutiny from the youth. The recent opposition to the Finance Bill 2024, which was ultimately dropped by President William Ruto due to public pressure, highlights the growing influence and determination of Gen Z in shaping the nation’s political landscape.

In conclusion, Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s rallying call to the youth underscores the critical role they play in the country’s future. His encouragement to remain steadfast in their quest for justice and rights resonates deeply in a time of political and social challenges.
